Distance: 8km
Duration: 3 hours

So the weather wasn't the most ideal, and after cancelling Plan A due to the forecast, and Plan B because of the forecast, it was a late Plan C that eventually happened.
Kakahu Bush is 15 kilometres from Geraldine, on the way to Fairlie. It's somewhere I have heard of but never been to before, and was glad to have the opportunity to check it out.
It is not a hard or strenuous day hike, but it is a great option when the weather in the hills is not being friendly.
The first part of the track follows a nice stream, before coming into an open area that was once the site of a sanitarium. From here, the track climbs and eventually comes out over the bushes. There are are good panoramic views from here.

The track then drops steeply down to cross a very small creek, before climbing up equally steep again. Then coming to the lookout on top of the pinnacles. Again, more great panoramic views from here.
From here you could either return the same way or carry on and complete the circuit, there would be no difference in time which ever way you decided to take.

I can definitely recommend doing this track, it's close to home and a great option for bad weather forecasts.
